Google develops AI model: DolphinGemma that understands dolphin language

Recently Google has introduced an AI model which can understand dolphin chatter and understand how they communicate. The clicks, whistles, and other sounds it makes under water have been noticed and always intrigued scientists. They always wanted to understand how they communicate throught their patterns. For this, Google assigned some engineers and did some research at the Georgia Institutes of Technology and named the project the Wild Dolphin Project and used DolphinGemma to help reach the goal of understanding dolphins.

DolphinGemma was introduced around National Dolphin Day, as a new tool to understand dolphin sounds. It was trained specifically to learn and understand the patterns and structure of dolphin chatter. Dolphin creates sounds such as "whistles", "squawks", and "buzzes".

"whistles" are made when they meet with their mother, or when they when they want to call other dolphins by their names

"Squawks" are made when they encounter threat and shows as aggression.

"buzzes" are made when they detect activities or when they chase sharks.

Google Pixel allows their interaction

Google pixel phones are being used fpr their interaction and the Cetacean Hearing Augmentation Telemetry (CHAT) system have been used for data collection, analysis, playback, two-way interaction and more. The pixel phones used for this project are modified with housed waterproof casing and are equipped with high sensitive microphones to record dolphins voices underwater. DolphinGemma AI are installed on the Pixel phones which will collect data and make two-way interaction with the dolphin. The Pixel phones also have the ability to create synthetic dolphin like sounds for their interaction and the sounds are then played back to the dolphins.

With DolphinGemma AI and CHAT we were able to analyze dolphin chatter and communicate with them. This innovative project helped us understand the world of dolphins.
